Mary Baker Eddy was born in Bow, New Hampshire, of Puritan ancestry. She expressed from early childhood a spiritual hunger which caused her to turn to God and to the Bible.

In 1866, in need of healing, she discovered the divine law of Truth in Christ Jesus' teachings -- the law which she later named Christian Science. From that time forward, her life goal was to convey this healing truth to others.

Between 1866 and 1910, Mary Baker Eddy wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other writings on Christian Science and founded the Church of Christ, Scientist, and its periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor, an international daily newspaper. Her writings and publications are available at any Christian Science Reading Room.
